The introduction of a single ski pass covering the whole of the Aosta Valley has encouraged British skiers and riders based in Courmayeur and other Aosta resorts to sample Monterosa Ski. The area comprises Champoluc, Gressoney-La-Trinité and Alagna on the Swiss border. Gressoney- La-Trinité is a network of cobbled streets and wooden chalets. Gressoney- St-Jean, 5km away, is larger and more attractive, while Stafal makes up in convenience what it lacks in soul.
The Hotel Gressoney is a four-star hotel just steps away from the centre of the old village of Gressoney Saint Jean with its quaint shops, bars and restaurants.
The Hotel Dufour in Gressoney is the ideal base from which to explore the Monterosa ski area.
The Hotel Ellex in Gressoney is a further addition to this undiscovered part of the Monterosa ski area.
The Hotel Gran Baita in Gressoney is a result of a recent refurbishment of a "Walser" house dating back to 1739. The Walsers were the original inhabitants of this valley - German speaking people form the Valais region of Switzerland.
The family run Hotel Lyshaus is located in charming village of Gressoney Saint Jean, where its cobbled streets and shops are only a few minute walk.
The Hotel Nordend in Gressoney is the best place to stay if you are here to heli-ski, go off piste or want the best access to ski the 3 Valleys of Monterosa. Run by Carlo Cugnetto who operates the heli-skiing in Monterosa the hotel is located above the ski hire shop, guides office and close to the lifts in the Tschaval hamlet of Gressoney La Trinite.
This famous mountain refuge very sadly burned to the ground is an accidental fire in December at the end of 2011. As yet there are no plans to rebuild it, so the following page purely shows historical evidence of this truly magnificent and unique place.
