Ski tourism started in Wengen with the Downhill Only ski club, a pioneer band of British skiers formed in February 1925 to race against their Kandahar Club rivals in Mürren. The club name developed from its members' customary train ride up the mountain in order to ski down, a process considered distinctly unsporting by the standards of the day when people thought there should be no gain without pain. Both ski clubs are still very much alive and functioning in the resorts.
In a quiet location by the nursery slopes, just 5 minutes' walk from the village centre, the Beausite Park offers high standards of both service and cuisine and has a refined atmosphere.
The Hotel Regina is the grandest hotel in Wengen overlooking the village, just a few minutes from the resort centre.
The Hotel Silberhorn in Wengen, is an ideal base for a first-class relaxing break in the centre of Wengen, close to the mountain railway and the Mannlichen cable car. The bedrooms are spacious and well equipped, most with a magnificent view of the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
The Hotel Sunstar in Wengen is a modern first class hotel in the centre of the car free main street, close to the Wengeralp/Jungfraubahn as well as main Mannlichen cable car.
The Hotel Belvedere in Wengen is a good value three-star family-run hotel situated in the resort centre.
The Hotel Eiger in Wengen is centrally situated next to the mountain railway station and a few minutes' walk from the ski run down from Kleine Scheidegg.
